Liverpool XI vs Inter Milan: Confirmed team news and predicted lineup

Liverpool could be tempted to rest a couple of their key stars against Inter Milan in the Champions League last-16 later today.

A 2-0 first-leg lead is being brought back to Anfield by the Reds, who are on a winning streak of 12 matches following Saturday’s narrow victory over West Ham.

Thiago Alcantara and Roberto Firmino both missed that game despite being on the verge of a return to fitness from hamstring and groin problems, respectively. Joel Matip was also absent due to illness.

The trio were all in action as Liverpool trained on Sunday but there remain question marks over Firmino.

“I think all trained yesterday fully,” Klopp told reporters. “I’m not sure yet what we make of that exactly, to be honest, because we have to see how they react.

“So, Thiago was only a week out, probably will be fine but we have to wait for it. Joel was only three or four days I think, so he is fine, I would say.

“With Bobby, it was longer out, it was [his] first session, so we have to see if we have to stress that or if it makes probably sense to give him just a few more days with proper training.

“Because we obviously don’t train properly today, it’s a minus-one session, it’s tactical stuff, not high intensity and Bobby might need something else.”

Curtis Jones was able to shake off a knock to feature off the bench, as did Diogo Jota after a recent ankle issue prevented him from starting the recent Carabao Cup Final.

Klopp could choose to take Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane out of the firing line with matches against Brighton and Arsenal, plus an FA Cup quarter-final against Nottingham Forest, coming up.

Predicted Liverpool XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago; Salah, Jota, Diaz.
