During a press conference, Ukraine captain Oleksandr Zinchenko sobbed, pleading for an end to the conflict in his home country.

The Manchester City defender was speaking to the media ahead of Ukraine’s World Cup play-off match against Wales when he started talking about the Russian invasion that has claimed so many lives.

Struggling to contain his emotions, Zinchenko began tearing up as he made a heartbreaking plea to those listening.

“Every Ukrainian wants one thing – to stop the war,” he told the press.

“I talked to kids who don’t understand what’s going on, but they all want the war to end.”

“We also have another goal: to qualify for the World Cup.”

“These are unforgettable emotions for me.” For all Ukrainians who are starving and struggling to survive in my country as a result of Russian aggression.

“I am so proud to be Ukrainian, and I hope that one day I will be able to bring this title to Ukraine for all Ukrainians who deserve it.”

After recently being crowned Premier League champion for the fourth time in his career, Zinchenko made a powerful statement by draping the Premier League title in the blue and yellow Ukrainian flag.

Since the devastating conflict began in February, the 25-year-old has used his platform to not only condemn the invasion but also to support the people of his homeland.

“To be honest, at times, especially in the beginning, I didn’t even think about football,” Zinchenko added.

“Because living at the same time as what is happening in my country is impossible.”

“But we did it with all the help we got.”
