Merson reacts to Arsenal’s pursuit of Brazilian ace.

Paul Merson has backed Arsenal’s pursuit of Gabriel Jesus, who is preparing to leave Manchester City.

After City signed Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez, Jesus will struggle to get regular playing time at the Emirates, and he is expected to leave the club.

The striker previously worked with Mikel Arteta, and the Spaniard will know how to get the most out of him.

However, because he is not the most prolific frontman in the EPL, not everyone believes he would be a good fit for the Londoners.

Merson, a former Arsenal player, believes he is good enough for them and would make an excellent strike partner for Eddie Nketiah.

“I thought Alexandre Lacazette would kick on after Aubameyang left, but he didn’t really get going,” he writes on Sportskeeda.

“He’s a far better player than his performances this season have indicated.”

“Arsenal has been linked with Gabriel Jesus, and I believe he’ll be a great fit alongside Eddie Nketiah, who’s only getting better.”

Just Arsenal Opinion

Jesus has been in great form in the last few weeks and has continued to do well for Brazil in this international window.

With goals, the frontman could lead us back to the Champions League, making him a risk worth taking.

However, if we are serious about competing in multiple competitions, we must be prepared to sign more than one forward during this transfer window.
