If rumors are true, Liverpool is receiving great support from major teams across Europe.

With their rumored interest in Michael Edwards, clubs throughout Europe are giving a huge tribute to Liverpool. This summer, the sporting director departs from Anfield.

This summer, Liverpool fired sporting director Michael Edwards. In many respects, it represents the biggest change in the background in a while. For the most of his ten years at Anfield, Edwards had a significant impact on the sporting side of things.

In charge of overseeing scouts and negotiations, he oversaw the transfer committee and made sure Liverpool made the appropriate trades to boost their performance on the field. The Reds didn’t really make a mistake while Edwards was in the position, thus the success is extremely obvious.

The desire for a piece of that by teams across Europe shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. According to Sky Sports, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have both contacted Edwards, while Chelsea is preparing a proposal.

Yesterday, The Daily Mail included Manchester United in the mix while making the Chelsea claim as well. Basically, after what he accomplished at Liverpool, some of the top clubs in the game want Edwards.

And the Reds deserve nothing but the highest praise for it.

Liverpool’s success is not only attributable to Edwards, as we stated when he announced his leave. He has undoubtedly contributed much, but without the proper talent discovery and, more crucially, coaching, none of it would have been possible.

Those clubs are aware of this, of course, but it doesn’t change the fact that they merely want a piece of what Liverpool is doing. That is how successful the Reds have been on the football field; if they can get Edwards, they will, even if it isn’t an exact replica of what is occurring on Merseyside.

At least, that’s how we’re interpreting it. The biggest clubs on earth are competing to duplicate a small portion of Liverpool’s success. We doubt that the club has received a similar accolade in thirty years.

Again, though, this would just be a portion of it. After Edwards, Liverpool is still using its elite system. Each club still has a long way to go before they reach Liverpool’s level, despite the fact that they can strive to imitate some of it and that Edwards would be a terrific addition to any club.
