On Monday, Kalvin Phillips signed a six-year contract with Manchester City from Leeds United, and Jack Harrison responded to the news on Instagram – a move he also made, but in the opposite direction.

Harrison had been with Manchester City for more than three years after joining from New York City in January 2018. The left-footer, however, never appeared for the Premier League champions.

Instead, he spent the seasons 18-19, 19-20, and 20-21 on loan at Leeds before making the move permanent in the summer of 2021. Phillips has been a consistent starter alongside Harrison since the winger’s arrival.

Phillips has now joined City, bringing an end to his time at Leeds, where he had spent his entire life up to this point. Harrison responded to Phillips’ departure from Leeds to rejoin his old club by saying, “No one deserves it more than you.”

Phillips has made an excellent decision. He moves from a team that narrowly avoided relegation to one that, with the addition of Erling Haaland, must be considered favorites to win the Premier League and the Champions League.

Leeds will lose an important part of their core, but this is something they should have expected. Tyler Adams has agreed to join the team. They could bolster their midfield even further with the addition of Mo Camara.

With an initial fee of £42 million, Leeds could sign a replacement for Raphinha as well as Phillips. This week, the Whites hope to complete deals for Adams and Luis Sinisterra worth a combined £40 million.
