As pre-season began, Jurgen Klopp’s squad returned to their Kirkby-based training facility.

On Monday, Liverpool began their preparations for the 2022-23 season.

As pre-season began, Jurgen Klopp’s squad returned to their Kirkby-based training facility.

Some Reds players, including Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, will not return until later this week. They have been given additional time off following the international break.

But here are three things we noticed during the session.

The official unveiling of Fabio Carvalho took place over the weekend.

Before pictures and interviews, the attacking midfielder was announced as a Liverpool player in May, with a fee of up to £7.7 million agreed with Fulham.

Carvalho will now feel he has properly begun his career with the Reds.

On what would have been an exciting day for him, the teenager met up with his new teammates.

Calvin Ramsay, who joined from Aberdeen for up to £6.5 million, is in the same boat.

The pair are probably itching to get on the grass with Liverpool and show off their skills.

Darwin Nunez, on the other hand, was not present at Kirkby. The striker was signed from Benfica for a club-record fee of £85 million.

He was granted additional time off after representing Uruguay during the international break.

Chambers’ surprise appearance

Kaide Gordon’s inclusion in Klopp’s squad came as no surprise.

The 17-year-old winger is expected to be on the periphery of things again this season and will play in cup competitions.

However, the fact that Luke Chambers reported for duty came as a surprise.

It hasn’t even been a week since Chambers led England to under-19 European Championship glory. The defender came off the bench in Friday’s 3-1 final victory over Israel.

However, rather than taking a well-deserved break, Chambers has demonstrated his dedication by checking in with Kirkby.

Pep Lijnders has stated that he is excited to see Chambers train with the first team this summer.

Now the 18-year-old is clearly desperate to impress – and it won’t go unnoticed.

Davies returns

Ben Davies is one player who has fallen out of favor with fans.

Signed in January 2020 during a defensive crisis, the centre-back has yet to make a single appearance for Liverpool.

Davies was on loan at Sheffield United last season. Despite only making 22 appearances, he generally impressed when he did appear.

Davies has returned to Merseyside until his next move is determined.

In reality, it’s difficult to see Davies interfering with Klopp’s plans.

Liverpool’s center-back options include Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibou Konate, and Joe Gomez. Rhys Williams and Sepp van den Berg are the juniors who play below the senior quartet.

Let us not forget about Nat Phillips. He’s returned after assisting Bournemouth’s promotion to the Premier League, but he’s expected to leave again.

Nonetheless, Davies will be eager to put himself up against Nunez, Mo Salah, and Luis Diaz in training.
