Tottenham begins fresh negotiations to let go of “one of the best” in his profession, according to Rob Guest.

According to Football London, Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid are “in negotiations” about sending Sergio Reguilon out on loan.

Reguilon, who is no longer liked by Antonio Conte, is destined to leave Hotspur Way before the transfer deadline on September 1.

The 25-year-old has attracted a lot of interest throughout the summer transfer window, with Barcelona initially appearing to be the main players.

However, now it appears that another La Liga powerhouse could be set to take ex-Real Madrid ace Reguilon back to Spain…

THE LATEST: ‘IN TALKS’

As per Football London’s Rob Guest, Atletico Madrid are believed to be ‘in talks’ with Tottenham to sign the 25-year-old left-back.

It’s claimed that Fulham and Lazio are ‘also keen’ on the six-cap Spaniard as Reguilon is ‘no longer’ in Conte’s plans at Spurs.

The report states that Tottenham ‘need to move on’ the man once hailed as ‘one of the best’ in his position in Europe by Lilywhites correspondent Alasdair Gold.

THE VERDICT: BEST OPTION

Allowing a player of Reguilon’s calibre to leave on loan and not sit around waiting for an unlikely opportunity is by far and away the best outcome for all parties this summer.

Clearly surplus to requirements in Conte’s ranks at present having been left out of each matchday squad so far following the resurgence of Ryan Sessegnon and the arrival of Ivan Perisic, the Spaniard needs to obtain first-team football elsewhere, particularly ahead of a World Cup later this year.

Under contract at Hotspur Way until 2025 (Transfermarkt), it remains to be seen whether Reguilon can return to north London and fight for his Tottenham future, but for now, hopefully, Fabio Paratici can thrash out a temporary departure, even if it is to a potential UEFA Champions League competitor.
