Manchester United news: Erik ten Hag verdict for Marcus Rashford as Brighton set Moises Caicedo price

Manchester United will face West Ham in the Premier League on Sunday, kicking off a busy week of domestic and European assignments for Erik ten Hag’s team.

Manchester United will play West Ham United and their former manager David Moyes in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Hammers’ visit comes just three days after United’s three-goal victory over FC Sheriff Tiraspol, and it comes ahead of Erik ten Hag’s side trip to Real Sociedad on Thursday. To avoid a Round of 32 playoff match, the Red Devils must win by two goals or more in San Sebastian.

A victory on Sunday would take United up to fifth in the Premier League and with a game in hand over rival teams above them in a congested race for European qualification spots.

Marcus Rashford insists he enjoys the “hard work” of Manchester United’s training sessions under new manager Erik ten Hag.

The striker has enjoyed a resurgence in form this season under the new United coach, and he scored his sixth goal of the season in United’s three-goal Europa League win over FC Sheriff Tiraspol on Thursday night. Luke Shaw’s standing cross was a bullet header.

Rashford has been deployed as the main striker in Ten Hag’s 4-3-3 system, ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, who has started just one of the club’s last nine Premier League matches, and Anthony Martial, who has struggled with fitness this season, preventing him from enjoying a run of games.

Brighton is willing to sell Moises Caicedo but wants an eye-watering £85 million for him.

United is among the clubs expected to enter the race for Caicedo, whom Newcastle sees as a replacement for Youri Tielemans, who is set to leave Leicester next summer.

Manchester United, in particular, has a history with the 20-year-old. The club was interested in signing the midfielder ahead of the January 2021 transfer window but backed out a month earlier. They could, however, rekindle interest in a move.

Manchester United is reportedly in contract talks with Alejandro Garnacho, who has drawn interest from Serie A, though the club is not in a hurry to sign a new deal.

Last season, the Argentine youngster made his senior debut for United under Ralf Rangnick, coming off the bench against Chelsea and Crystal Palace. Erik ten Hag, the club’s new manager, chose to keep the 18-year-old in the first-team squad rather than loan him out, and he made his debut in the 3-0 Europa League victory over FC Sheriff.

Garnacho is under contract at Old Trafford until 2025, so there is no pressing need for a new deal. With Juventus sniffing around, the Premier League club is acutely aware of the situation confronting one of their young stars.
