Manchester United is willing to pay €60 million to sign a target from Barcelona.

Manchester United will reportedly have no qualms about spending €60 million to sign Barcelona target Martin Zubimendi.

According to the print edition of AS, as relayed by Sport Witness, Manchester United is interested in Martin Zubimendi. And the Red Devils are willing to pay €60 million to Real Sociedad for the Spanish midfielder, who was a target for Barcelona.

Martin Zubimendi, a native of San Sebastian, spent most of his formative years with Real Sociedad. The 23-year-old subsequently progressed through the ranks at the Basque outfit before making his first-team debut in April 2019. And the Spaniard has established himself as a pivotal figure for La Real since then.

The Spanish midfielder has turned out 114 times for Real Sociedad, chipping in with four goals and four assists. At the same time, Zubimendi has broken into the Spanish national team.

And his progress has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Manchester United and Barcelona.

Manchester United bolstered the midfield unit by signing Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in the summer transfer window. But the Red Devils remain in the market for a midfield reinforcement, with Frenkie de Jong emerging on their radar again. But the Barcelona midfielder does not want to join Manchester United.

While Zubimendi will bring different qualities to the table, he can slot in alongside Casemiro. So the interest from Manchester United is understandable. But Manchester United will have to fend off stiff competition from Barcelona to sign the Spanish midfielder.

The Catalan giants view the 23-year-old as a potential successor to Sergio Busquets. And unlike at Manchester United, Zubimendi will be a more natural fit at Spotify Camp Nou. But recent reports have claimed that the Spaniard does not wish to join Barcelona after signing a new contract with Real Sociedad. Meanwhile, the Red Devils are willing to pay €60 million to sign him.

Triggering Zubimendi’s release clause, worth €60 million, will take the decision on his future out of Real Sociedad’s hands. But it is unclear if the Spanish midfielder is open to joining Manchester United after deciding not to join Barcelona.
