Unable to find himself a space in Brendan Rodgers’ plans at Leicester City last season, Dennis Praet was sent on loan to Torino for the campaign.
He did well, but spent a lot of time injured, which resulted in the Serie A side showing some reluctance towards triggering the pre-agreed €15m option to buy.
They let him return to Leicester but continued to negotiate with the Foxes in hope of striking a deal, but the Premier League’s side’s refusal to accept anything other than a full transfer for a fee of more than €10m scuppered any transfer.
Thus, the player remained at the King Power Stadium, where he has played a bit-part role, only making a handful of appearances here and there before the World Cup break.
In the meantime, Torino has continued to try and get something done with Leicester through their director of sport Davide Vagnati, which Tuttosport pick up on Wednesday.
However, they are waiting for the Foxes to lower their demands, as they continue to ask for €9m, which the Serie A side won’t spend in January.
That could be negotiated down to €8m, but that still remains high for a player barely being used and whose contract expires at the end of next season.
Down his end, Praet ‘wants Torino again’ and is keen to rekindle his relationship with Ivan Juric, who believed in him throughout the last campaign.
It’s all down to Leicester now.
