Manchester City is targeting a new full-back during the January transfer window, with summer signing Sergio Gomez reportedly not fully trusted by boss Pep Guardiola.

Gomez joined City from Anderlecht for an initial £ 11 million in the summer, with the club electing against loaning the Spaniard after failing to sign Marc Cucurella, who moved from Brighton to Chelsea.

The left-back has yet to be fully trusted to start matches, according to the Athletic, prompting the club to target increased depth.

Gomez has made just five substitute appearances in the Premier League but has started four Champions League matches.

The 22-year-old was sent off against Copenhagen in a goalless draw in a Champions League group game in October.

The Premier League champions reportedly hold an interest in Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell and Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney.

Chilwell and Tierney have faced competition for their places from Cucurella and ex-City player Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Borussia Dortmund’s Raphael Guerreiro and Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri were also players pursued during the summer.

Joao Cancelo has largely been used at left-back for Guardiola’s side this season, with Kyle Walker starting at right-back.
