Lisandro Martinez receives a warning from Erik ten Hag after he notices a shift in the Manchester United defender.

Erik ten Hag issues Lisandro Martinez a warning after noticing a change in the Manchester United defender.

Erik ten Hag says Lisandro Martinez has returned to Manchester United with more confidence following his World Cup triumph with Argentina.

The 24-year-old capped a stratospheric year with the ultimate international honor earlier in the month but has already switched his focus to ending it with another win for United.

Martinez returned to training in midweek after being given time off to celebrate the World Cup win and could return to the United side for their trip to Wolves this lunchtime.

Ten Hag says the international success has already had a clear positive impact on Martinez, but he has warned the former Ajax defender that there is now even more pressure on him to deliver.

”He’s tough. Of course, it’s an unbelievable highlight for him, when you win the World Cup with your team then [there are] celebrations in Argentina where there is a passion all around,” Ten Hag told club media.

“You can see that since he returned, his confidence has even grown. He’s overjoyed, but he’s back here with both feet on the ground because he understands that every opponent will be much more determined to defeat him now that he’s the World Cup winner, so he needs to perform even better than before.

“Every player that participated in the World Cup, and especially those who win it, will undoubtedly be a better player as a result.
