Rangers are interested in the Manchester City player due to his strong League One loan performance.

After graduating from City’s youth, Trafford has yet to play in a professional game for them. Since January, he has been on loan with Bolton.

The 20-year-old has appeared for the team 47 times in all competitions during that period, assisting them in moving up to a sixth position in the League One standings.

His performance for Ian Evatt’s team now appears to be garnering some major outside interest.

With an eye on the January transfer window, Rangers are reportedly now showing interest in Trafford after regularly keeping tabs on the goalkeeper while he was on loan at Bolton.

Currently, Trafford’s contract with parent club City has four and a half years left, ensuring his future at The Etihad until the conclusion of the 2026–27 season.

The Finding

It may come as no surprise that Rangers are beginning to show this kind of interest in Trafford.

The goalkeeper has been outstanding during his time on loan at Bolton, showing he has the potential to play at a much higher level than he currently is doing.

As a result, he could certainly be a useful asset for a side such as Rangers, who could need a longer-term option such as Trafford between the posts, with Allan McGregor now 40, and Jon McLaughlin 35.

That will be a concern for Bolton, who will not want to lose such an important player midway through a promotion race, and the fact he has so long remaining on his contract with City could give them hope he will not be going anywhere in January.
