A Nico Gonzalez transfer twist surfaces amid £30 million Leicester City ‘talks’

The winger is thought to be a target for Brendan Rodgers in the January transfer window, according to the most recent Leicester City transfer news.

There have been contrasting reports in the Italian media over the future of reported Leicester City target Nico Gonzalez in January.

Brendan Rodgers is keen to add to his squad over the next few weeks, with right-wing as one of the three positions that have been highlighted. The city has been shot in the area since Ademola Lookman’s loan move wasn’t made permanent in the summer, the winger instead joined Atalanta where he has had a successful first half of the season.

A name to be heavily linked with a move to City in the last few days is Argentina international Gonzalez City said to be in talks with Fiorentina over a potential move, with some reports suggesting that City had made a bid of around £30 million.

That has however been disputed by some reports in Italy (via Football Italia) who report that the Serie A club has received no official bids. They also add that Fiorentina does not intend to sell the winger in January.

However, football Italia reported just a few hours earlier that sources in Italy indicated that the club was ‘considering’ an offer from City and were even setting up a replacement for the 24-year-old.

Fiorentina reportedly had their eye on Lille attacker Jonathan Bamba as a replacement for Gonzalez, implying that the Italian club is willing to cash in on the player this month.

Gonzalez was named to Argentina’s 26-man squad for the World Cup in Qatar, however, he was unable to compete due to injury. He has appeared in 11 games this season, scoring five goals.

The winger returned from injury as a substitute in the weekend’s win over Sassuolo, scoring a late penalty to give his club all three points.
