“He’s going to Newcastle” – Geordie star to sign despite interest from Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea?

90min reporter Graeme Bailey said on the Talking Transfers Podcast that Sunderland wonderkid Chris Rigg is ‘going to Newcastle’ despite interest from Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City.

The 15-year-old, who has captained England U-16s, made his first-team debut in a 1-1 draw against Blackpool and came off the bench again in Sunderland’s 2-1 FA Cup win over Shrewsbury.

Rigg is regarded as one of the country’s most promising midfielders, and Bailey believes that his Geordie roots will be important in his next move, adding that we will pay a very little compensation price’ for his signature.

As a Newcastle fan growing up in Hebburn and surrounded by Toon supporters, the child is likely to want to swap his red and white stripes for black and white ones as soon as possible.

In a recent report, The Sun’s Alan Nixon stated that we are “strong favorites” to sign him before Manchester United, so it would be interesting to see how this plays out.

“He’s a fantastic possibility,” Bailey said on 90min’s transfer podcast. Again, this is a player who Chelsea likes, but he also likes Manchester United and Manchester City, so he has his pick of clubs in England.

“But, being the die-hard Geordie that he is, we believe he’ll be moving to Newcastle for a pittance.”
