‘Phenomenal’ player expected in Newcastle this week ahead of St James’ Park move, according to reports.

Newcastle United are confident that they will win the race to sign Anthony Gordon, according to The Telegraph.

Indeed, it appears that the Magpies are on the verge of signing the ‘phenomenal’ Everton midfielder.

Gordon is expected to travel to Tyneside this week before finalizing his move to St James’ Park, according to the Telegraph.

Of course, no deal is final until it is announced, but the noises coming out of Newcastle seem to indicate that Gordon will be playing in black and white soon enough.

In recent days, talks have progressed, and while Chelsea is interested in the youngster, Newcastle is led to believe that the Blues will not outbid them for the Everton star.

Gordon has plenty of room to develop at the age of 21, and Newcastle will be hoping that Eddie Howe can work his magic and help this player breakthrough.

Gordon has shown glimpses of being an infinitely talented footballer, but he fails far too often to put everything together and make an impact for Everton, which is why the Toffees are currently in the bottom three.

However, Howe is the manager who can get the most out of Gordon.

As we’ve seen with the likes of Miguel Almiron and Joelinton, Howe knows how to bring out the best in players like this, and whether or not Gordon becomes a star on Tyneside, he’ll be an upgrade over Ryan Fraser.

For Everton, the sale of Gordon should provide the funds needed to bolster the rest of the squad, but who that manager will be and who Everton will sign remains to be seen.
