After Porro, a journalist believes Tottenham “could do something unexpected” on deadline day.

Spurs appear to have reached an agreement with Sporting Lisbon over defender Pedro Porro, but Taylor believes he may not be their last business of the transfer window.

Tottenham transfer news – Pedro Porro

The Porro saga in north London has rattled on for much of the window, but it now appears to have finally come to a favorable conclusion.

The Athletic reported on Monday morning that the deal was effectively off after Sporting Lisbon had reneged on the terms of the proposed deal.

But things move very quickly at this time of year and Fabrizio Romano told his Twitter followers this evening that Tottenham had found an agreement with the Portuguese side, although they’re still waiting for the paperwork to be completed.

The deal will be worth €45m (£39.5m) and Porro will travel to London on deadline day to complete his move.

However, there could well be more business to come from the Lilywhites.

What has Ryan Taylor said about Tottenham’s late business?

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Taylor suggested that Tottenham could throw up some surprises on January deadline day.

He told GMS: “Whether there’s another signing… I think Spurs are very much a team that could do something unexpected on deadline day.”

Daniel Levy masterclass at Tottenham?

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is notorious for being one of football’s toughest negotiators and that is often evidenced by Spurs conducting incredibly late business in the transfer market.

Some of their last-minute deals down the years include Emerson Royal, Steven Bergwijn, Serge Aurier, Fernando Llorente, Lucas Moura, Georges-Kevin Nkoudou, Moussa Sissoko, Son Heung-min, Federico Fazio and Benjamin Stambouli – with all arriving during the final few days of January or summer transfer windows.

Of course, there isn’t much of a correlation between arriving late and being a success at Tottenham. Some of the above names completely flopped, like Fazio, Nkoudou, and Stambouli, while others enjoyed productive spells at the club – Llorente, Moura, and Sissoko, for example, were part of the side that reached a Champions League final.

But from a footballing perspective, late arrivals certainly aren’t ideal. They’ve lost out on time to bed into their new club and there’s far more pressure on them to hit the ground running. Fail to do so and within a few months, they’re already being branded as a flopped signing.
