“Registered an interest” – a talkSPORT reporter now claims Newcastle wants to sign the £45 million star.

However, the talkSPORT reporter has doubts about whether the Blues would be prepared to strengthen a top-four rival.

Newcastle transfer news – Conor Gallagher

According to the MailOnline, Everton has made a bid worth £45m in total for Gallagher, but the Merseyside club could face competition for his signature.

The same outlet claims that Newcastle could also make a move for the 22-year-old with manager Eddie Howe thought to be a big admirer.

Gallagher may see his game time at Stamford Bridge significantly decrease if he stays as Chelsea look to complete a deal for Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

As per BBC Sport, the Blues have offered Benfica £105m to sign their World Cup winner.

What has Alex Crook said about Conor Gallagher and Newcastle?

Crook says Gallagher is on Newcastle’s radar but is unsure if Chelsea would be willing to sell to the Magpies.

Speaking to GMS, the talkSPORT reporter said: “They’ve certainly registered an interest in Conor Gallagher, but I just don’t know with Chelsea. I think there will be a big part of them that doesn’t really want to help Newcastle get in the top four because that could be a problem moving forward for the club.”

Would Conor Gallagher be a good signing for Newcastle?

He certainly could be. The Englishman has Premier League experience, making over 80 appearances in the competition (via Transfermarkt), and has shown that he is capable of scoring goals from midfield.

During his loan spell at Crystal Palace last season, Gallagher registered eight times in 33 top-flight outings, which is a good return for a midfielder and one who started that campaign as a 21-year-old. He also made two tackles per match, according to WhoScored, showing that he can do the ugly side of the game, too.

“His development is extraordinary and outstanding,” former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said last year, according to the Blues’ official club website.

“He is one of the key players at Crystal Palace and he has made a huge step in his development upfront. He was a joy to coach in pre-season because he has so much positive energy, so much energy in general, and so much work rate to offer that he can, of course, be a big help and a big influence.”
