Report: The reason why £35m Tottenham Hotspur target ‘will be sold’

Tottenham Hotspur target Jordan Pickford will be sold if Everton is relegated this season, as per the Sun.

The Toffees recently agreed on a new four-and-a-half-year contract with the England international but he is still Spurs’ priority in the goalkeeping department. Hugo Lloris, aging, error-prone, contract expires at the end of next season… yada, yada, yada.

We know this drill. Spurs are undoubtedly going to be looking for a new face to add to their ranks that can be the veteran Frenchman’s successor.

Pickford, 29, is still at Everton where he is not even remotely close to tasting success. At Spurs have been making the odd cup final here and there in that time.

A great move for all parties

Moreover, we are a UEFA Champions League club and are set to make the top four this season barring a slip-up. The Toffees, meanwhile, are in 15th after 27 points and sit one point away from the relegation zone with all the other teams below them having a game in hand.

From our point of view, Everton being relegated would be the ideal situation if we want to sign the former Sunderland shot-stopper. There is apparently an agreement in place to let him leave if Everton drops down to the Championship.

Pickford can be loyal all he wants to Everton and give up European football to stay with them. But it would be a serious, serious dilemma for him if they are relegated.

He is a full England international and is in conversation to be one of the Premier League’s finest goalkeepers in recent years. You can’t really win the trophies you want to cement your legacy as a modern great playing in the second division.
