Exclusive: Door opens for Tottenham to sign Man United world-class star this summer

Tottenham have received a boost in the race to sign Dean Henderson this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider sources revealed on Saturday (29 April) that the 26-year-old goalkeeper now considers a return to Man United ‘impossible’ and is expected to leave the club permanently.

United are in advanced talks with David de Gea over a new contract and Henderson has no intentions of returning to Old Trafford to play second fiddle to the Spaniard.

He left the Manchester club to join Nottingham Forest on loan this season after growing frustrated at the lack of opportunities he was given to challenge De Gea for a starting spot.

A permanent exit now seems inevitable, with Henderson desperate to play regularly and work his way back into Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

It is understood that Nottingham Forest will propose a deal to sign Henderson permanently if they survive relegation this season, but a deal is off the cards if they are unable to avoid the drop.

That opens the door for Spurs to pounce and sign Henderson, with the North London club huge admirers of Henderson’s talents.

Tottenham are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer, with 36-year-old Hugo Lloris well into the twilight years of his career.

Henderson is keen to stay in the Premier League but wants assurances that he will be given consistent first-team minutes at his new club.

A thigh injury has kept Henderson sidelined at the City Ground since mid-January, but prior to his setback, he was in fine form for Steve Cooper’s side keeping six clean sheets in 20 total appearances.
