Nottingham Forest can sign Andrew Omobamidele for £20 million this summer, according to reports. It’s previously been claimed that the Reds have sent scouts to watch the central defender this season.

The 20-year-old has played 50 times for the Canaries. Now, The Telegraph believes that the player will be available for a pretty substantial amount this summer.

Omobamidele is a sound central defender. He’s risen through the Norwich youth ranks and is now part of David Wagner’s promotion-chasing squad in the Championship.

Former Canaries boss Dean Smith has previously praised Omobamidele. Earlier this season he claimed: “He’s an accomplished player. He is going to be a really big player for us and he’s a big positive.”

Republic of Ireland legend Paul McGrath is also a big man. He’s previously called him ‘brilliant’ and also topped him for a really bright future in the professional game.

Omobamidele will be a wanted man in the summer. Forest is unlikely to be the only club watching him right now and they might have to move quickly to land him, given this price.

Cooper will know that his team concedes far too many goals. The Reds have leaked 62 goals this season, with only Leeds and Bournemouth conceding more in the Premier League.

The forest is clearly keen to sign more defenders. Cooper has used an astonishing nine different partnerships during 2022/23 and clearly, a more settled approach would be preferred.

The Reds have been nothing short of hapless defensively, especially away from home. If Forest does get relegated this season it will be down to their form on the road and something needs to change.

Omobamidele would definitely strengthen the Forest rearguard. Signing a quality, the young defender would also represent a nice approach by the club, with fans typically preferring younger players to be added.
