Aston Villa has signed Barcelona talented star- report

Acquired on a free transfer, Christensen was hardly the talk of the town last summer. Reinforcements upfront unsurprisingly allured the masses as the Dane was largely perceived to beef up the defensive depth of Barcelona.

However, with Barcelona nearing the final stages of the season and a La Liga title nearly under their belt, it’s safe to say Christensen is worth his weight in gold. Silently going about his business, the former Chelsea man, when fit and available, has filled gaping holes at the back.

A defense that cried out for recruitment now boasts of a modern ball-playing center-back in Christensen. The Catalans benefit so highly with him mostly due to how seamless he makes the build-up phase. With the Danish International taking command of possession, success is usually found on the pitch. The 11 goals conceded in the league are a testament to his innate abilities.

However, given Barca’s precarious financial situation, his sale would in turn aid the arrival of other signings. Suitors for Christensen exist in abundance as his sublime season has amassed interest from all over Europe.

In such a context, Mundo Deportivo reported Aston Villa’s interest in purchasing the Danish center-back. On a sporting basis, the Birmingham-based club had made huge strides. Therefore signing a player of Christensen’s caliber would undeniably bolster a club on the rise.

In light of Mateu Alemany’s recently announced resignation from Barcelona, weighted rumors of the sporting director’s appointment at Aston Villa strengthen these claims, since he personally advocated for Christensen’s recruitment during the previous summer transfer window.

It is no surprise Barca crashed out of the UCL with Christensen missing from their ranks. A sale may ease the club’s financial strain; but certainly, hamper their sporting aspirations. If the club aspires to achieve greater things, his continuity will be crucial.
