Nottingham Forest striker Andre Ayew has failed to get going at the City Ground since arriving back in February.
Now, a report from The Athletic has explained exactly how his fellow teammates value him behind the scenes.
Ayew was a surprise signing made by Forest after the conventional transfer window had slammed shut.
Forest had done some mediocre business at best in January and the Reds haven’t had any joy with Ayew.
The player has had just four shots on goal in over 300 minutes of action. That isn’t great for a player who is renowned for scoring goals.
His career has dwindled since he left Swansea though. Steve Cooper signed him because of his good work at the Liberty Stadium but right now, Forest hasn’t got that player.
It would appear that Forest’s squad values Ayew, however. It’s claimed that there is no angst in the dressing room over the 33-year-old getting minutes.
Ayew is being subbed on in every single game. That wouldn’t be so bad if it was a case of needs must but Sam Surridge and Emmanuel Dennis are kicking their heels.
Forest have four games to save themselves in the Premier League and Ayew looks far from being the answer.
Ayew has failed to star for Forest but players value him
This doesn’t really come as a major surprise in the sense that Ayew has been a model professional.
He values Steve Cooper as a mentor and he wouldn’t do anything to rock the boat in that sense.
It still doesn’t mean that the head coach should be introducing him from the bench in every game.
The idea of a substitute is to impact games and Ayew hasn’t really done that one just yet.
It’s admirable that Cooper is clearly still a huge fan of the striker but that doesn’t mean he’s got what it takes to keep Forest up.

FC Luzern is yet to make a decision on Nottingham Forest defender Mohamed Dräger and whether to sign him on a permanent basis in the summer.
That’s according to Blick, who says it is ‘very questionable’ whether the Swiss side will take up their option to sign him once his loan deal comes to an end.
The 26-year-old has been on loan with Luzern since February last year following an unsuccessful short stint at Nottingham Forest following a move from Olympiacos in August 2021.
He’s made 49 appearances for the club since then but has found himself out of the picture this season after the World Cup.
He was a regular on the side before that point but has fallen out of contention since then, with manager Mario Frick claiming, “he fell into a mental hole” and subsequently preferring Severin Ottiger in his place.
It means the defender’s future at the club is now ‘hanging in the balance’. Luzern has the option to turn his loan deal into a permanent one butt his change in status means it is now ‘very questionable’ whether they will take that option up.
They’re seemingly not as keen on the Nottingham Forest man as they once were, and it appears he will be sent back to England rather than remaining in Switzerland next year.
