Ferran Torres has become the latest name to be linked with a summer move to St James’ Park today.

According to Steve Kay at Football Transfers, Newcastle United is weighing up a move for the former Man City forward following ‘internal discussions’ on Tyneside.

The report states that Howe values his Premier League experience and versatility, with the 23-year-old able to play down either flank or upfront.

Torres only joined Barcelona last year, but it wasn’t long ago he was scoring goals at St James’ Park, netting a hat-trick in City’s 4-3 win over Steve Bruce’s Mags back in May 2021.

Football Transfers believe that a fee in the region of €35m may be enough to bring the Spanish international back to England. The player himself is in no rush to leave the No Camp, but ‘could change his mind’ should an offer arrive from a Premier League side able to offer Champions League football.

The former Valencia star has 15 goals in 35 appearances for Spain – a superb record at his age – and netted 16 times in 43 appearances during his time at the Etihad. Game time has been hard to come by at Barcelona this season, but he’s still caught the eye in Europe with three goals in five UCL outings.

He’s young, versatile, is no stranger to English football, and could blossom into a top player with the right coaching, so I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he’s one of several forwards currently being looked at.

EXCLUSIVE: Newcastle wants a cut-price deal for key target and Man City discussing part-exchange

Newcastle United is keen to bring Kieran Tierney to St James’ Park this summer, but his injury history has left Eddie Howe pushing for a cut-price deal.

Speaking exclusively to NUFC Blog, Football Transfers correspondent Steve Kay has confirmed that the Toon boss is a big fan of the Scottish international, revealing that he tried to sign the 25-year-old during his time at Bournemouth.

However, his injury record is a concern, leaving us reluctant to match Arsenal’s £35m asking price at present. He remains a key target, but a compromise may be needed if he’s to arrive on Tyneside.

Interestingly, Steve also tells us that Man City have shown interest in their search for another left-back. Arsenal has made inquiries over Joao Cancelo, proposing Tierney plus cash for the Portuguese international who was loaned to Bayern Munich back in January.

Here’s what Steve told us, explaining where things stand in our pursuit of the former Celtic star:

“Arsenal wants £35m for Tierney, but Newcastle is pushing for a cut-price deal as Eddie Howe is wary of his injury record.

“There’s a big chance he leaves this summer, although Arsenal is likely to sign a replacement before sanctioning his sale. He’s not getting the first-team football he wants and didn’t start in last weekend’s defeat to Nottingham Forest despite Zinchenko missing out.

“Man City is also in the market for a left-back and has shown interest in Tierney over the past two transfer windows. Conversations have taken place over a potential part-exchange, as Arsenal is eyeing up Joao Cancelo ahead of his return from a loan spell with Bayern Munich.

“Newcastle are certainly keen and Howe is a big fan – he tried to sign him during his time at Bournemouth – but he doesn’t want to overpay due to those fitness concerns.
