Coventry City receive ‘proud’ response after play-off final penalty agony

The latest Coventry City news at the Sky Blues’ season ended in heartbreaking nature in the play-off final at Wembley Stadium

Coventry City fans have given their immediate reaction to a heartbreaking loss against Luton Town in the Championship play-off final.

After fighting back from 1-0 down in the first half thanks to a Jordan Clarke strike, Gustavo Hamer’s second-half goal took the game to extra time. Luton thought that they had won it in the dying minutes through Joe Taylor, but VAR rightly ruled the goal out due to a handball by the Luton player.

It meant that the agony of a penalty shootout was required, a situation that will always leave one set of fans heartbroken. After a perfect first five penalties from both teams, it went down to sudden death.

Fankaty Dabo had to score to keep Coventry’s dream alive but saw his spot kick go over the bar, prompting celebration from Luton who will play in the Premier League next season.

As for the Sky Blues, they will look to dust themselves down and go again next season as they look to go one step further.
