Report: 24-year-old has £30 million relegation release clause, Leeds want to keep him

Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams has a £30 million relegation release clause in his contract at Elland Road.

That is according to Bola Vip, who also reports Sevilla has a long-standing interest in Adams and could make a move for him this summer on an initial loan deal.

Leeds is set for a mass exodus of players once the transfer window opens after relegation from the Premier League was confirmed on Sunday.

The likes of Rodrigo Moreno, Jack Harrison, and Robin Koch look certain to leave, while several others will not be short of suitors.

Adams is certainly someone who falls under the latter, though Leeds is said to be very keen to keep him in the Championship as they look to build a side capable of an immediate return.

Adams has £30 million release clause

If this report is indeed correct, there isn’t much Leeds can do if it is triggered. However, if interested clubs such as Sevilla can only muster up a loan deal then Leeds need to hold firm.

A temporary move away is in no way beneficial to Leeds and so they will have to be ruthless in who they keep – regardless of the player’s wishes – if the finances aren’t good enough.

Adams is among a handful of players based on the season’s performances that Leeds supporters would be happy to see stay at the club.

He is the type of player Leeds can really build a strong team capable of promotion around, though as is the case with many of them, it is their international careers which could have a big say in their future

Adams is currently the captain of the USMNT and is set to play a big role in next summer’s Copa America, which will be held in the United States.

That said, the USA isn’t exactly blessed with a plethora of quality holding midfielders, and playing in the Championship should not be looked down upon too negatively given it is arguably better than a number of the top leagues around the world.
