Report: Tottenham defender is ‘excited’ to start working with Postecoglou

Despite reports claiming he could leave the club this summer, Eric Dier is now firmly expected to stay at Tottenham Hotspur and is thought to be excited to get to work with his new manager.

The 29-year-old will have spent a decade at Tottenham next year and has now amassed 361 appearances for the Lilywhites since joining from Sporting Lisbon in 2014 (Transfermarkt).

It was an especially disappointing season for Dier and the rest of the Spurs defence last term, with a catalogue of errors and an excess of goals shipped.

Since taking over at Tottenham, Ange Postecoglou has made it clear to the board that he needs to sign a new centre-back this summer (90 Min).

It was suggested that Dier could be one of the players to make way during the current transfer market, but a report from The Athletic revealed it was more likely the England international would depart for free next summer.

According to the latest from The Telegraph, Eric Dier has not been informed of any plans to sell him this summer and the only thing he is thinking about is making a good impression on his new head coach.

Apparently, Dier has “no intention” of leaving Spurs this year and is “excited” to start working with Postecoglou now that he is “fully fit” having recovered from a long-term injury that has affected him since the 2022 World Cup.

The report adds that Dier “has received no indication” that he is up for sale despite the plans for new additions to the Spurs defence.

There is really no need to sell Dier at this point. We wouldn’t be able to demand more than maybe £10-15m for him given the time remaining on his contract, and you’re not going to be able to find a replacement with as much experience and authority as him for that price.
