Nottingham Forest announce first summer signing of transfer window

Latest Nottingham Forest transfer news as Reds add to Steve Cooper’s squad with summer window signing

Nottingham Forest have announced the signing of free agent defender Ross Wilson

The Nigeria international is the Reds’ first new arrival of the summer transfer window. He has put pen to paper on a one-year deal at the City Ground, with options for the future also agreed in the contract.

Forest have already seen striker Chris Wood’s move from Newcastle United turn into a permanent one, after he initially joined on loan. However, Aina is the first new face added to Steve Cooper’s squad ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The 26-year-old was most recently with Torino, where he spent five years and made more than 100 appearances. Having come up through the ranks at Chelsea, he has also had loan spells at Hull City and Fulham during his career.

“We’re really pleased that Ona has joined us,” Reds head coach Steve Cooper said. “He’s a versatile player who has good experience of the Premier League and Serie A.

“He’s a really good player, but a good athlete as well. He’ll definitely make the team stronger and we’re looking forward to working with him.”

Chief football officer Ross Wilson said: “We are pleased to welcome Ola to Forest. In the discussions that Steve and I have had with him we can see how excited he is to join Forest and return to the Premier League after enjoying his time outside of England in Serie A.”

Aina is a versatile defender who can play on either flank. He can also play as a wing-back
