Man Utd seal Rasmus Hojlund transfer agreement despite late hijack attempt

Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund to join Manchester United despite Paris Saint-Germain offering the Denmark international striker a more attractive financial package

Rasmus Hojlund has agreed to join Manchester United and has turned down a late approach from Paris Saint-Germain – despite their offer of a greater financial package.

The Atalanta striker is set to become United’s third arrival of the summer. Attack-minded midfielder Mason Mount completed his move to Old Trafford earlier this summer before the club also moved to sign goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan.

Reports on Tuesday indicated that the Red Devils have an agreement with Hojlund already in place with terms agreed for a five-year contract – while they will not countenance being drawn into Atalanta’s transfer valuation of the striker.

The Serie A club believe they can attain a fee of £80million for the striker but it is thought that this public stance is at odds with their own valuation of the player, with United making it clear from the start that they will not bid above £60m.

A report in Gianluca Di Marzio outlines how United and Hojlund are now confident that a deal will be concluded by the end of the week. It comes as the two clubs now negotiate a transfer fee after the player’s agreement is already in place.

PSG – who are in the market for a new striker amid doubts over the future of Kylian Mbappe and the departure of Lionel Messi – offered the Denmark international a financial package that eclipsed United, but Hojlund had already given his word to the Red Devils over a deal.

Hojlund has impressed in his debut season in Bergamo having joined from Sturm Graz last summer. He bagged nine goals and provided four assists in Serie A while also impressing his nation in the European Championships qualifiers.

Speaking back in January, Hojlund revealed his preference for joining United: “Now that you ask, I will not hide the fact that I am a huge Manchester United fan. So personally, it would be one of the biggest things for me, but of course, that doesn’t mean that I would turn down other big clubs if the offers come at some point.”

Hojlund has dropped another huge hint over his desire to complete the move with his Instagram activity; the striker ‘liked’ a post showing United boss Erik ten Hag welcoming goalkeeper Andre Onana following his transfer being completed. The caption, from the club’s official account, read: “The moment we were waiting for.”
