Ange Postecoglou issues Micky van de Ven and Richarlison Tottenham injury update for Brentford

Ange Postecoglou has been speaking about Micky van de Ven’s fitness after the Netherlands Under-21s ace joined Tottenham from Wolfsburg earlier in the week

Ange Postecoglou has indicated that Micky van de Ven will “definitely” be available for selection for Tottenham’s Premier League opener at Brentford. In desperate need of adding to their centre-back options this summer, Spurs finally wrapped up a deal for the highly-rated Dutchman on Tuesday.

Joining from Wolfsburg in a deal which could be worth up to £43million including add-ons, the youngster has all the attributes to be a huge success in the head coach’s system.

Although he had trained regularly with the German club but not managed to play 90 minutes in pre-season, Postecoglou has revealed that his new player is “not quite at the level” of match conditioning just yet but he is available to make his Spurs debut in west London.

“It’s good to get Micky in. He’s settled in well. It’s not as simple as him simply coming in and training with us, but he’s been bright in training,” the 57-year-old said in his pre-match press conference.

“He’s had a pre-season with Wolfsburg but he hasn’t played 90 minutes yet. Fair to say that in terms of match conditioning he’s not quite at the level yet but he’s definitely going to be available for selection this weekend.”

One player who looks in a position to start is Richarlison now that Harry Kane is on the verge of leaving for Bayern Munich.

Missing last Sunday’s friendly against Shakhtar due to a knock but making his return on Tuesday night in the defeat against Barcelona, Richarlison is fit to play despite speculation regarding his fitness ahead of this weekend’s fixture.

“Richarlison is fit. There wasn’t any doubt about that,” admitted Postecoglou. “He didn’t play against Shakhtar but he wasn’t likely to. He picked up a knock in training but came through fine against Barcelona.”
