medical ‘underway: Everton has signed a great striker

Beto set for Everton with medical ‘underway’ as Che Adams update emerges – Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers

Beto looks to be the only signing Everton will make before the transfer window shuts with his medical currently “underway”, according to Alan Myers.

The Sky Sports journalist responded to questions on his personal Twitter account Sunday night (27 August) to report that it was “only Beto at present” on the cards at Goodison Park, adding that he “can’t see too much more” otherwise and that the club “won’t get” Che Adams if this deal is completed.

The Toffees have already agreed personal terms with the Portuguese striker, 25, and have struck a deal with Udinese in excess of €30million [£25.7m] according to Fabrizio Romano on 26 August.

The Toffees had been closing in on a £15m deal with Southampton to sign Scotland international Adams [Telegraph, 20 August] before turning their attentions back to January target Beto when the price went as high as £25m [Sky Sports, 25 August].

All in one basket

With just a few days left until the transfer deadline it is looking close to an all or nothing situation with regards to strikers.

Sean Dyche, the recruitment department, and the fans will all therefore be hoping that there are no late hitches in the process to get Beto over the line.

There is an outside chance that a late collapse could see the money redirected back towards a deal for Adams, 27, but in a choice between the two the Udinese striker would appear to be the more sensible option to spend on.

Having scored 21 goals in Serie A over the past two seasons, and at six foot four possessing the frame to fulfil the role Dominic Calvert-Lewin does when fit, he looks like an exciting option for Everton.

Adams may be going along at a goal a game in the Championship so far this season but he has only netted 25 Premier League goals in the past four seasons combined, so whether he could be the answer at Goodison Park remains in question.

In the club’s current financial situation they need to be getting someone who can make a telling contribution if they are spending around £25m, having yet to find the net in three top flight defeats, so it might be Beto or bust at this stage.

In other Everton news, another first-team ace has reportedly agreed to leave the club after an eight-figure bid came in.
