NEWS NOW: West Ham are reportedly trying to recruit a “versatile” new player who was offered to Moyes last January

According to rumors, West Ham United are now interested in bringing in an experienced defender who was presented to David Moyes early this year.

What is the most recent West Ham United news?
According to The Evening Standard, West Ham manager David Moyes plans to rest several first-team players when his team travels to Lincoln City in the third round of the Carabao Cup. James Ward-Prowse, Jarrod Bowen, and Lucas Paqueta will not travel to the East Midlands to face the English third-tier club, while Michail Antonio, Alphonse Areola, Emerson Palmieri, and Kurt Zouma will also be absent. The Hammers’ summer recruits Mohammed Kudus and Konstantinos Mavropanos are expected to start.

Lincoln City captain Paudie O’Connor is unfazed by the prospect of facing one of the Premier League’s heavyweights, telling their official club website: “We’ve got nothing to fear, especially being at home.” We’ve been to Bristol City, Sheffield United, and Southampton and performed admirably on all three times, so there’s no reason why we can’t do the same on Wednesday.”

Nonetheless, West Ham will be heavy favorites to advance to the next round of the competition, and Moyes will be eager to add some more trophy to their haul from the Europa Conference League last season.

According to Sport Witness, West Ham player Pablo Fornals was targeted.

West Ham United could sign who?
West Ham are one of several clubs interested in Shakhtar Donetsk defender Mykola Matviyenko, who was pursued by Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion in January before signing a new contract with the Ukrainian giants. Matviyenko’s representatives are already looking into prospective destinations for the 27-year-old, who is also being pursued by Sheffield United, Crystal Palace, Everton, and Burnley.

Despite being a defender, the Ukraine international has been on a scoring rampage this season in the Premier League, scoring three goals in his first six outings, according to Transfermarkt.

Matviyenko has recovered an average of 11.5 balls per patch in the Ukrainian top flight this season, while maintaining a pass accuracy of 89%, displaying his ability to orchestrate offensive movements from deep, according to Sofascore.

Matviyenko, dubbed “versatile” by journalist Andrew Todos, was actually offered to West Ham, Brentford, and Leicester City in January while talks between his agent and Brighton were ongoing, with a sum in the area of €25 million considered to be Shakhtar Donetsk’s asking price, according to 90min.

Given his flexibility to play on either side of the backline, Matviyenko would be a wise signing for West Ham in the January transfer window.
