REPORT: Newcastle United key man faces a six-month absence due to…

Newcastle United midfielder Joe Willock is still expected to be out for an extended period of time due to injury.
Willock has not played for Newcastle since May due to a hamstring injury sustained in last season’s 4-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion. The 24-year-old midfielder missed the entire preseason and has yet to play this season due to a new physical setback.

Willock suffered an Achilles injury after recuperating from his hamstring injury, delaying his return to Newcastle’s first-team preparations. And the former Arsenal youngster will be out for over six months, with Magpies head coach Eddie Howe indicating that he would not be eligible for selection until November.

Howe provided an update on Willock, saying, “He’s doing well.” We hope that at this point in his recovery, he’s on the grass, not with us, but with the physios and sports scientists who are working hard to increase his dependence and load.
Doing well and appears to be content. I believe the physios have established a reasonable timetable for his return. I don’t think we’ll rush him back; instead, I think we’ll be cautious.

“He still has a long way to go.” I believe he’ll return to training around the middle to end of October, after which he’ll need some time to regain his proper condition.”

Willock will have missed nearly six months of playing for Newcastle, who are currently dealing with a number of injury concerns.
Emil Krafth returned from a 13-month injury layoff with Newcastle’s Under-21s but is still a long way from playing for the first squad, while Harvey Barnes is out until 2024. Callum Wilson is close to returning from a’minor’ hamstring injury, but Sven Botman will not return until after the international break due to a knee problem.

Joelinton suffered a hamstring injury in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Burnley and could miss the forthcoming games against PSG and West Ham United before the international break.
