Former Rangers defender accused of using racial slurs by the FA
Former Rangers defender Jack Simpson has been charged with racial abuse against a former Cardiff City teammate.
The FA has confirmed that the 26-year-old, who was a member of Rangers’ title-winning squad in 2020/21, has been charged with misconduct in connection with the claims made during Cardiff’s pre-season tour in July.
He left Cardiff City at the end of August after appearing in 23 games for the Championship team.
Simpson has until October 10 to respond, according to the FA.
“Jack Simpson, a former Cardiff City player, has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 for misconduct that occurred on their pre-season tour to Portugal in July 2023,” a statement stated.
“It is alleged that the defender’s language towards a teammate was abusive, insulting, and/or inappropriate, in violation of FA Rule E3.1.”
“It’s further alleged that this constitutes a ‘aggravated breach’, which is defined in FA Rule E3.2, as it included a reference – whether express or implied – to race and/or colour.”
Weymouth-born Simpson began his career at Bournemouth before moving on to Rangers for 18 months before joining Cardiff in August 2022.
On August 31, Cardiff confirmed Simpson’s departure in a concise 16-word statement.
It stated: “We can confirm that Jack Simpson has today left Cardiff City Football Club by mutual consent.”
