According to a major revelation from the Spanish newspaper El Pais, UEFA will explore measures to fundamentally reorganize the way its European competitions operate.
West Ham United are playing in the Europa League this season after winning the Europa Conference League.
For the first time in the club’s history, West Ham has played three straight seasons in Europe.
Back in the 2020-21 season, the Hammers were one win away from qualifying for the Champions League.
However, considering the Premier League’s incredibly competitive standard, qualifying domestically for clubs like West Ham is extremely difficult. Indeed, winning the Europa League may be a more feasible route for the Hammers to qualify for the Champions League.
Plans for a European Super League to compete with UEFA’s championships, which would have guaranteed a fixed number of elite teams a place with no promotion or relegation, were scrapped just as fast as they appeared in 2021.
UEFA has already confirmed that the format of its European competitions will alter beginning with the 2019 season.
The number of teams competing in the group stage will rise from 32 to 36, and the traditional group stage will be replaced by a single league phase in which clubs will play eight matches against eight different opponents.

According to the source, UEFA intends to introduce a European Cup campaign comprised of three tournaments: the Super League, the Europa League, and the Candidates League.
Teams in these divisions will compete for promotion and relegation in the same way as teams in domestic leagues do.
West Ham would most likely begin in division 2 or 3 if they qualified through their Premier League finish or domestic cup success.
