Reporter reacts after hearing who Wolves could now sign for O’Neil
Those at Molineux could raid a Premier League rival in January…
Wolverhampton Wanderers could be set to open their chequebook in January and journalist Dean Jones has been reacting after hearing one man could now potentially move to Molineux.
Wolverhampton Wanderers look to January…
For long periods, the summer transfer window looked as if it would be an unfruitful one for Wolves as they battled with the harsh realities of Financial Fair Play restrictions, which, in turn, led to Julen Lopetegui leaving the building before subsequently being replaced by Gary O’Neil.
Nonetheless, a late surge of activity saw Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, Santiago Bueno, Enso Gonzalez, and Tommy Doyle join Matheus Cunha, Tom King, Matt Doherty, and Boubacar Traore in the West Midlands, and their presence has aided O’Neil in providing stability at Molineux.
Wolves have produced some impressive results this season, defeating the likes of Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and high-flying Everton; meanwhile, O’Neil’s side have been unlucky not to take more points than they currently stand on.
Looking ahead, January might be a crucial month for the club as they avoided potential Financial Fair Play constraints by selling off £140 million in players in the summer window, which may allow Wolves some much-needed leeway in bringing in quality reinforcements.
Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill has been linked with a move to Molineux next month, with the Old Gold contemplating a £7 million bid for him in January. Crystal Palace, Fulham, and Leicester City are all interested in the Warrington-born striker, whose contract expires in the summer of 2024, though Burnley are expected to exercise a 12-month extension clause in his deal.
Dean Jones reacts to Wolves’ Josh Brownhill interest
In light of Wolves’ interest in Brownhill, journalist Jones has stated that it would “be a great signing” if speculations that the 27-year-old may join Wolves in January were accurate.

“Brownhill gets linked with many clubs and doesn’t tend to move,” the reporter told GIVEMESPORT. So I believe that’s the biggest reason I’d be skeptical of it. He’d be a wonderful addition to an O’Neil team, in my opinion. If he were to go on, I believe this is something he should think about. Off the top of my mind, I believe he was considered by O’Neil while at Bournemouth.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if the rumors about Wolves were true.” But we’ll have to see if the athlete is interested in something like this happening.”
Brownhill has been a bright spark in Vincent Kompany’s engine room for Burnley this season, collecting three goals and one assist in 17 appearances across all competitions (Brownhill statistics – Transfermarkt).
If the Clarets’ issues worsen, Wolves may try to persuade Brownhill to relocate to the West Midlands while he considers his future at Turf Moor, making this a game to monitor.
