Wolves has just received an intriguing update ahead of Villa clash.
Aston Villa receives troubling injury update on “versatile” player ahead of Wolves.
With their top four hopes having taken a hit in recent weeks, Aston Villa have received a concerning injury update that may play a role in their first game back from the international break, a Midlands derby against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Aston Villa transfer news
With only nine games remaining in the Premier League season and only three points separating Villa in fourth place and Tottenham Hotspur – who have a game in hand – in fifth, Unai Emery does not need any more injuries.
The former Arsenal manager has already had to cope without Tyrone Mings and Emiliano Buendia for the whole of the current season, and he needs as many players of his team as possible for a final push for the top four.
Given where we are in the Premier League season, the March international break is always nerve-racking for clubs that are still on track to meet their objectives, whether they are survival, top four, or title winning. And Villa have become the latest club to demonstrate why it is prudent to keep a close eye on things, with one star potentially ruled out of their first game back from the break.
After the right-back came off the bench only to walk off 11 minutes later, Poland manager Michal Probierz delivered an update on Matty Cash’s injury. “It’s probably a little worse for Matt. We’ll make a decision later with your doctor.”
The right-back crashed with an advertising board before holding his hamstring, causing concern for Villa ahead of their derby against Wolves. The coming days will be critical in determining the extent of the damage and if the Pole will be out of commission for a lengthy period of time.
“Versatile” Cash adds to Aston Villa’s injury list
If Cash does not recover in time to face Wolves on Saturday, March 30, he will become Emery’s latest injury to deal with at Aston Villa, and at the worst possible time. That being said, here’s a look at Aston Villa’s current injury list and when fans in the Midlands may expect players to return…

Emery will be well aware of the severity of Cash’s long-term absence, so he and the rest of the club will be hoping to see the full-back return soon after the international break.
Emery emphasized the right-back’s potential to fill other voids in his squad at the start of the season, telling The Independent: “He’s versatile, he’s played as a winger, he’s playing with us in a back four sometimes, sometimes lower, but we used him in pre-season playing higher, as a winger.”
“He assisted us a lot today, both defensively and offensively, and he utilized the opportunity to reflect on his time as a winger at Nottingham Forest. His two goals set a wonderful example for us, but we know he’s adaptable.”
