Today’s transfer gossip as Newcastle made favourites to sign Marcus Rashford and Atletico Madrid’s Yannick Carrasco speaks out
Your Newcastle United transfer round-up for Tuesday, March 7.
Carrasco hints at NUFC interest
Yannick Carrasco has revealed that “a few clubs knocked” on his door during the January transfer window.
Reports linked the Atletico Madrid midfielder with a move to Tyneside last summer, with Spurs another potential destination. However, the Belgian has spoken of his desire to stay in Spain following Atletico’s 3-1 win against Real Betis at the weekend.
“These days, I feel very, very good,” he told RTBF.
“I’m at home. I’m well integrated. I’m an important player whether it be on the pitch or in the dressing room. I’m already at a certain age too, but football, as they say, you never know how to plan or predict the future.
A shock report by Fabrizio Romano in The Guardian claims Marcus Rashford is considering his Man Utd future. The boyhood Red Devil is believed to be frustrated at a lack of first-team opportunities this season, with Ralf Rangnick leaving him on the bench for the 4-1 Manchester derby defeat.
BetVictor have made the Magpies firm favourites to sign the England striker at 4/1, with 90min suggesting West Ham are also vying for his signature. The Saudi-backed revolution on Tyneside is expected to take off this summer should top-flight survival be secured and Rashford would be a statement signing by the new regime.
Leverkusen chief coy on Diaby
Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfe insists he plans to keep Newcastle target Moussa Diaby.
The French winger has come of age in the Bundesliga this season – scoring 12 goals from the left flank – and attracted several Premier league suitors in the process.
Aston Villa are also reportedly chasing the former PSG star as Steven Gerrard looks to bolster his ranks in the summer. Rolfe, however, does not want to sell Leverkusen’s star man.
“Moussa is an important building block,” he told Kicker.
“We want to grow as a team and a club. We will try to keep our best players.”
