Tottenham receives a boost after an ex-Arsenal player is offered a £450k replacement.

Mat Ryan, a former Arsenal player, has recently been offered a contract by Borussia Monchengladbach. He might take over at Die Fohlen from Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Yann Sommer.

According to Sky Germany, Borussia Monchengladbach is already in negotiations to replace Sommer. The Bundesliga club is aiming to secure the goalkeeper’s heir ahead of potential departure this year, with the Switzerland international’s contract expiring on June 30.

Bayern Munich would prefer to move Sommer from Borussia Dortmund to replace Manuel Neuer in Bavaria this month. Der FCB will be without the shot-stopper for the remainder of the season following surgery for a leg fracture sustained in a skiing accident last month.

TOTTENHAM IS EXPLORING A TRANSFER FOR BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH ACE SOMMER

Tottenham is also interested in Sommer’s transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach, per Dean Jones. Antonio Conte is open to adding a new shot-stopper to his ranks. While Spurs chiefs have also begun sounding out what Sommer intends to do with his future uncertain.

But Sommer, who can imagine changing clubs in January, is Bayern Munich’s top target to replace Neuer. His agent is also already in talks with the Allianz Arena hierarchy over a deal to join the record Bundesliga champions. But Der FCB is yet to make Die Fohlen an offer.

Borussia Monchengladbach will also not permit Sommer’s sale without first securing a new goalkeeper’s services. The 34-year-old started their first 10 Bundesliga fixtures this season before sustaining a knee injury in October. He returned to fitness ahead of the World Cup.

Sommer also kept three clean sheets to 14 goals conceded in his German top-flight outings before flying to Qatar. Die Fohlen also does not undersell his importance to the side. So, club chiefs will only sign a worthy replacement and are not yet fervently eying a move for Ryan.

AGENTS HAVE OFFERED COPENHAGEN STAR RYAN TO DIE FOHLEN TO REPLACE SOMMER

Intermediaries have offered Ryan to Borussia Monchengladbach after the Australia star fell out of favor at FC Copenhagen. The 30-year-old had joined the Superligaen side in August from Real Sociedad. But after six league appearances, he has not featured since October 2.

Ryan has a €500k (£450k) release clause in his contract with Copenhagen which could now see him replace Sommer. Borussia Monchengladbach would be his third team since a loan spell with Arsenal in 2021. He then only spent 2021/22 at Real Sociedad after nine outings.

During his loan spell from Brighton & Hove Albion, the goalkeeper pleased Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta early on. The Spaniard was really impressed’ with Ryan’s’really concentrated’ and very professional approach to battling against Bernd Leno.

Now, Ryan’s move from Copenhagen to Borussia Monchengladbach may enable Arsenal’s strong north London rivals Tottenham to secure a transfer for Sommer at the cost of Bayern Munich.
