Tottenham leader’s contract extension thrown in the bin as huge bumper new deal being formalised

Tottenham’s manager’s contract extension has been canceled as a massive new deal is finalized.

Tottenham Hotspur are apparently willing to reward club captain Son Heung-min with a lucrative new contract rather than a contract renewal, as has been suggested.Fantasy Premier League!' - Ange Postecoglou reveals one downside of taking Tottenham job | Goal.com

Since replacing Harry Kane as the club’s spearhead in attack, the South Korean has been back to his best, and Ange Postecoglou has given him the added duty of leadership.

After starting the season in his usual position on the left wing, Richarlison’s troubles centrally forced Postecoglou to make Son the club’s No.9, a choice that has proven to be quite successful thus far.

The 31-year-old netted a brace in the 2-2 north London derby draw at Arsenal on Sunday, bringing his season tally to five, following his hat-trick at Burnley.

And, according to Football Insider, he now appears to be well rewarded for his efforts.

They report that rather than adding a year to Son’s present contract, which expires in 2025, Tottenham are ready to negotiate a ‘totally fresh’ new contract with the South Korean in order to secure their prized asset.

According to the article, the club hopes to “reflect the forward’s importance” to the club by offering better conditions to stay in north London for years to come.

Son has scored 150 goals in 379 appearances for Tottenham since joining from Bayer Leverkusen for €30 million in 2015.

During their time together, the attacker forged a lethal partnership with Kane, but his form dipped dramatically last season, when he scored only 14 goals in 47 outings for the north London club.

Son is expected to lead the charge once more this Saturday as an in-form Liverpool side visits the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in what could be a thrilling Premier League clash.
